HIRF Test Campaign is Underway

We’re subjecting an E190-E2 test aircraft to some invisible energy.

Our High Intensity Radiated Field tests measure the impact radio frequency energy from radio, TV and radar emitters (and other sources, too) has on the E2’s electro-electronic systems.

Energy from these sources can adversely affect the performance of critical aircraft systems. The tests allow our engineers to specify the degree to which those systems may need to be enhanced to be immune to HIRF interference. When the systems are proven to be robust, aircraft can fly safely and land at all airports.

The tests follow the conditions for the design of avionics electronic hardware in airborne systems defined by the RTCA, Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (DO-16) and EUROCAE (ED-14G.)
